Doncaster Year 4 Basketball Tournament

A mixed squad of five boys and five girls from year 4 took part in the Basketball Tournament held at Outwood Academy, in the third week back of the term. The team played many other schools in very active and fast moving games, scoring some splendid baskets with accurate shots. The last game against Hatfield Travis School being played with extra time, until the ‘Golden Basket’, which we scored in order to achieve 3rd place. Well done to the year 4 pupils.

Year 4,5 and 6 Dodgeball games against Southfield (home games)

Mixed teams played against Southfield, played with great determination. All the pupils played exceptionally well and enjoyed the participation.

Hall Cross Hockey Tournament.

Two teams of mixed boys and girls took part in the Hall Cross Hockey Tournament and achieved fourth place for our school, playing eight games each. The scores were really close and one game ended in a dramatic penalty shoot-out!

Year 4 and 5 games against Sunnyfield School.

A mixed team of year 4 and 5 pupils, along with a team from Southfield, played basketball against the recently formed Sunnyfield School Basketball Team. The schools played each other twice, with Bessacarr the overall winners on the number of baskets scored and points per game gained.

These games were an opening to later friendly football matches in the following weeks, with a mixed year 5 team playing the first football match and the second, a week later with a boys’ year 4 team.

Tag Rugby Competitions.

A joint team of talented boys from both Bessacarr and Southfield competed in the Danum Shield Y6 Boys Tag Rugby Competition, held this year at Kingfisher School. The joint team played very active games. After the number of tries scored was taken into account to award placement, the team, who came in equal second on ‘points awarded per game’ were awarded third place overall, with a difference of only one try between all the top places. Well done to the talented Y6 boys- Nathaniel, Jay, Josh, Seb, Jack and Phelan, who all successfully scored notable tries in each game.

At Wheatley Hills Rugby Tournament for the Doncaster Cup the Bessacarr team came joint third out of twelve school teams taking part. The rules of this competition are for a team with at least two girl players per game and our girls’, Ella, Maddy and Liliana played splendidly with full participation. (As did the boys) In all games the school team scored many tries and in one game literally by a try on the closing whistle.

Bike It Activities.

Tom Collister (Doncaster’s Bike It Officer) has been into school working with F2 children on a ‘Get Off Stabilisers Day’ were two sessions-morning and afternoon were fully booked, with most children by the end of the session no longer needing stabilisers, whilst the others were very close to achieving it.

Southfield Football Tournament Year 5/6 Boys’ and Girls’.

Bessacarr again entered the annual football tournament which brought in twelve separate boys’ and girls’ school teams from across Doncaster. Bessacarr girls’ team came second in the girls’ competition, playing each school twice. Well done girls. The boys had a challenging competition but equally did their best, participating to the full, gaining 4th place.

Doncaster Rovers Keepmoat Y4 Football Competition Six aside

A boys’ team took part competing against many other Doncaster schools, winning through to the quarter finals. They participated showing excellent skills and thoroughly enjoyed further friendly games against Southfield. The year 4 girls’ team equally competed well, against a smaller number of participating teams. A special mention goes to Anya and Maisie for their amazing ‘dribbling’ skills through the opposing teams. After the competitive matches for both teams, there was a friendly game against Southfield and also a boys v girls game-between a team of six boys and the full squad of girls!

Townfield’s Cross- Country Races.

Four teams of pupils, five boys and five girls from year 4 and year 5/6 took part in the cross-country running races on town field. All participants completed the course on a very warm day, succeeding in winning the overall competition gaining the highest points. In the proceeding weeks competitive trials had been held to find five pupils for each team, with additional lunchtime practices as training. It was noticeable that many children tried their ‘best effort’ to make the team and showed their talent and determination in the trials, which is commended.

Bessacarr where the overall winners out of all the ten schools taking part. In every top ten positions there were always two or more pupils from Bessacarr. Each race had 40+ competitors and all completed the course. The girls’ Y4 team came first and won a shield, with Maisie in second place, complimented by others in the top ten positions. The boys’ Y5/6 race had Jimmy in third place and the Y5/6 girls’ race had Kitty in third place. Congratulations to these named pupils, who all received medals, and well done to all the other team members who all ran with great determination. The large shield will soon be engraved with the school’s name for 2017.

Cricket Sessions for Year 3/4

Doncaster Cricket Club coaches have been working with year 3 and 4 classes over three weekly sessions, developing cricket skills. This is in preparation for a tournament being organised by Doncaster Cricket Club in the Summer term.

After these many events we are grateful to parents/carers for returning the ‘school team kit’ washed and dried promptly, as often a few days later it is used again for the next event. Also to those who have transported their child to or from the venues. Thank you.

We would be grateful if parents/carers would ensure that their child has the appropriate kit (clothing and footwear) for PE and outdoor games each week. Sometimes there are extra practices at lunchtimes for teams entering up and coming events (pupils are made aware of these in advance) as well as the normal after school clubs.
